It's been difficult and taken nearly 10 months for me to even begin to process the turn of events at the institution where I work. Despicable acts were perpetrated on this campus by a criminal and enabled by administrators that I respected. I acknowledge that Penn State as a whole institution was implicated structurally in these crimes (and this means me too) by the actions of the few leaders involved. The Penn State name is necessarily tarnished because of this. In my mind there is no way to "move on" past these events. I have to start over with what I do believe in. I believe in the quality of academic research and instruction here, so the most confident statement that I can make is that I THINK I'm: "Proud to support Penn State academics."
This is about as vulnerable as I'm willing to get in public on this topic. If you want more, buy me a beer and let's talk off the record.
