Celebrity Recolonization of Africa

Mother Jones has created an interactive map demonstrating what they call the "celebrity recolonization of Africa." Pop personalities are vying to claim their own territorial niche of the continent on which to bestow charity (or at least a 'fact-finding' trip). Is celebrity advocation really helpful or does it just perpetuate erroneous stereotypes and false us-them dichotomies? Somehow this seems to be another incarnation of 'white-man's guilt' over an exploitative global system--give token charity rather than make structural changes that will inconvenience the economic hegemony.
