Imatong Mountains, Eastern Equitoria, South Sudan 3.946461,32.909889 A former anthropology professor of mine enumerated language surveys of this area in the 1970's. At the top of a rather dodgy mountain road, he was surprised to find pine plantations, trout streams, and a beautiful stone guesthouse with a roaring fire in the fireplace. This whole area fascinates me: ecologically (situated between biomes), biologically (a number of endemics), historically (Samuel & Florence Baker and Emin Pasha both described the region), and politically (SPLA was headquartered near the area and John Garang was killed in a helicopter crash near here).
