The Southern Carpathian Mountains in Romania are home to the largest continuous stand of virgin forest left in Europe. When considered with the rest of the Carpathian Mountain range, they become the second longest mountain chain in Europe, spanning seven countries, and house the largest population of brown bears and wolves on the continent.
